What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Very clean and quiet. Right next to the creek which was great and close to hikes. I went to the nightly talk and learned a lot!

Smokemont is one of my favorite campgrounds in the National Parks. It is lovely, shady and has a wonderful stream running through it. The temperatures are comfortable, even in July and August. Hiking up Bradley Fork (at the end of the campground) is a must! You’ll see beautiful ferns, wildflowers and mushrooms. There are several historic cemeteries and a church to visit as well.

We've been camping at Smokemont in the summer for a number of years and have always enjoyed it. Several hiking trails in the area and rafting/kayaking within thirty or so minutes of the campground add to the fun!

We have been coming to Smokemont for over 40 years. It is now our yearly family camping trip. We love this place. We reserve the same spots every year. For some reason this year when we arrived our reservation for one of our 6 sites had been cancelled. The ranger said it looked they closed that site for done reason but then opened it back up and someone else had reserved it. I was very concerned not knowing what to do with our people. The park ranger took lots of time to work things out for us. We were able to keep the family all together. I was so grateful for her patience and help. We will be back next year again.

We loved our stay at Smokemont. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful offering suggestions of hikes to try. The bathrooms were well maintained, and it was nice to have a dishwashing station nearby. We enjoyed walking along the trail that crosses the creek and exploring the campground. The campsites are fairly close together, as other reviews mention, but it didn’t bother us.
We had two issues with our site (B007) - one was that it was raining when we came into camp, and our tent pad had a massive puddle in the middle of it. I saw another review mentioning a flooded tent pad at this site as well, but I wasn’t able to switch to a different site. Luckily, we had a tarp to put down under the tent, which kept the water from seeping in. The second issue occurred on our second day - we ended up with a ton of red ants crawling all over our tent. I didn’t notice a large anthill anywhere, but we must have managed to set up the tent on or near one. It was so bad that we ended up taking ants with us when we packed up camp.
We hope to stay at Smokemont again, but maybe in a different site.
