What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

The site was a great launchpad for hiking and sightseeing this area of the park. The campground was quiet, easy to check in, and the dump station was nice and easy to get to with (I believe) two places to dump. We were able to maintain our battery with a couple of hrs of generator running each morning and each evening. There was a bear proof dumpster near our site as well as a fire ring and a picnic table. We were near the restrooms but used our camper so I can’t comment on the condition of the restrooms. I heard they were bad and that other campers were trying to dump their sewage in the restrooms, though.

The ranger was very helpful with us needing another spot due to a truck malfunction.

The campground under the trees is a wonderful place. The kids had a great time running around and the 1.5 mile nature trail was perfect for them.

Beautiful site on Bradley Fork with nice borders and lots of trees! Enjoyed relaxing with my crafts in the sunshine, walking all the loops, sitting by the campfire, and talking with other campers. Campground and restrooms are consistently clean. Was so lovely to back in our teardrop camper in our GREAT Smoky Mountains surrounded by healing nature!

Lovely campground, lovely staff. We were hoping to win in the synchronous firefly lottery, but we did not. We decided to go camping anyway. To our pleasure, we witnessed the synchronous fireflies in the woods around the Smokemont campground, what a neat experience! Bathrooms were functional and reasonably clean. The campground was full, so there were A LOT of people, so not really the place to get away from crowds, but everyone seemed to exercise good camp etiquette. We fished and played in the river, as well as hiked, went to the visitor center, saw the sites, went up to Kuwohi, and spent a day in Cherokee. We saw elk in camp and in the area, wild turkeys, and even a bear off the side of the road. It was a wonderful experience.

The fact that this highly used campground has no shower facility is a point of embarrassment.
