What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

The day I arrived at noon an RV across from me was running their generator that they continued to run until 8pm. After they left the next morning another RV pulled in right next to me and started their generator which they ran the entire day until 8pm. A couple of their neighbors, including me tried to plead with them to give us just 1 hr reprieve and we were met with a hostility from the owner. I spoke to the host and was told they couldn’t do anything because the rules stated that generators could be used from 8am until 8pm. The person that was running their generator all day and evening never once came out of their RV. In my opinion this rule needs to be changed to certain limited hours in the morning and the evening. Because there will always be people that only care about themselves with no consideration for their fellow campers that would just like to have a little peace and quiet. I choose to shorten my stay rather than listen to a generator constantly. I have camped at Smokemont every year for many years, but sadly I think this will be my last until when or if this generation use rule is changed.

Love this campground. My go to when it hits 100 degrees in Jacksonville. Always a well kept campground. Close to Cherokee casino.

Booked for 2 nights while I worked in town I was only able to camp at night decided to book another night the ranger came harassing just like any other time .me not being able to be there before their closing time I was unable to get a new paper .the ground ranger always hateful. Their loud generators running right beside us at a tent site. Bad experience like any other time.

As always smokemont is the best overall campground ever. I’ve been staying here since I was very young with my parents. I have continued that yearly trip with my kids in summer and fall. Smokemont never falls to give you so much peace from the front rangers office, campsite, bathrooms, trails and stream you can never have a bad time here. I can’t say enough good things about all the staff.
