Our experience camping, hiking and bicycling at the Wax Myrtle Park was very good. However, the All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) really disturbed the serenity of nature. As a birder, I found them to be harmful to habitat and was quite concerned about the disturbance to the nesting Snowy Plovers. Wax Myrtle is best starting in September and throughout the cooler months when ATVers are not out in force.

This was a lovely spot that was right on the Siltcoos river and was perfect for kayaking. I was able to kayak from the campground out to the ocean which was a really novel experience. Lots of beautiful wildlife and a great spot for bird watching if you're into that! The only downside is that it is in the dunes, so there's the noise of dune buggies and such. But overall a lovely campground and I would camp here again.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds on the central Oregon coast. The Siltcoos River is an amazing paddling paradise. I wish they would put in recycle stations for cans, bottles, etc.

Bathrooms were always clean. Host was great and made the rounds frequently. Lots of campsites had privacy. Great trails nearby.

I was not aware it was reservation only as had not been there for a few years. Website/app could not send me password update link. Had to drive to town to make reservation.
Women's restroom had no water to sink & no water to outside drinking fountain

Waxmyrtle is an outstanding campground located in a beautiful coastal forest and dune environment near the mouth of the Siltcoos river. There are some excellent hiking opportunities at the campground and nearby. The facilities at the campground are clean and well maintained and there are many excellent campsites to choose from. Of the three campgrounds located in the immediate area, Waxmyrtle has the least amount of noise from the ATV’s operating in the dunes just north of there. The only real thing I disliked was the height of the metal ring fire pits. It’s very difficult to enjoy a campfire because the rings are so deep and you can’t really see the flame. Also, it would be nice to have a source where at the campground or nearby where you can purchase firewood.

There is a 14-day in 30 rolling days camping limit on the Siuslaw National Forest. The 14 days does not have to be consecutive. The 14-day limit covers the entire Siuslaw National Forest and not just this campground as shown in the Rules Section. This means you cannot go to other campgrounds on the Siuslaw National Forest after reaching the 14-day limit. |
