Their was garbage in the campsite that had been there for sometime. The toilet paper ran out frequently. The host was off duty our entire visit.

We had a great time. Only downside was this lady screaming at her unfriendly dog named Pickles the whole time. I also overheard someone report a theft to the camp host who said there have been a lot of thefts recently, so don’t leave anything out or unlocked that you’re not willing to lose if you leave the site.

I printed my reservation, put it on my dash and no one bothered me. After reading all the receipts and confirmations, I can't tell if that was what I was supposed to do, but it seemed to work out. Thanks Recreation.gov

This is a great campground right next to the Siltcoos. We stay in site 004. It is a large, level, and open site. Our designated parking spot was weird though, it backs up to site 003. It was great to wake up to the birds singing. Loved being able to get right into the water from our site. The Waxmyrtle trail down to the beach is very nice, it is all sand for about half a mile. We will definitely go back. The camp host was very friendly!

TOO SLOPED. The driveway for the campsite was too sloped to work for our RV.

Campground booking page at Recreation.gov does not have site photo. The picture on the campsitesphotos.com shows that the site 47 has grass covered patches near the table and behind the fire ring. In reality it was completely different. Looks like in preparation for the season the shrubs were cut using tracked machines. The thin grass cover was stripped away leaving muddy surface. As the result there was no place to put the tent. Fortunately I was able to swap the site to another one that did not suffer from "improvement" actions.

It's hard to give a rating to this campground. On the one hand it's proximity to the Siltcoos River Trail and Lagoon Trail is outstanding. On the other, the condition of many campsites is very poor. Extreme shrub and tree trimming has left the campground looking mangled and shredded. Some sites are unusable with debris piled up and rough ground. We had reservations for #28 we made months ahead but on arriving decided it would be impossible to pitch our tent there. It looked so lovely in the campsitephotos.com images. Luckily, there were few people there just after Memorial Day. We looked around and found one of the few good sites, #41 and with help from the friendly Camp Host changed our reservation. We set up in a 25' deep grotto of untouched blooming Salal and Rhododendron with room for 2 tents. With our backs to the ugliness of aggressive shrub control it was nice. This is a great place for birding and the songs were never ending. We could hear some ATV or dirt bike activity but it was generally quiet. Oh, and the restrooms with flush toilets were very clean. I think we'll consider going back in the future after things get cleared up and the shrubbery comes back. Lagoon Campground, right across the road, has some nice open, level sites. Shrub trimming happened there too but it's not as severe. Happy Camping.

We love this quite, clean campground with its large, private sites. This year we were a little disappointed to find shrubs and trees cut way back in some of the camp sites including the ones we usually use on the path along the river. The debris (including felled trees, piles of cord wood and saw dust/bark) was left on site so it was difficult to walk around the main area of the site and the area around the fire pit was really torn up. (Uneven and sandy with no ground cover.) Dead branches hanging over the site were not removed. And the little paths to the river trail and the river trail itself were over-grown. Visibility was opened up (too much?) between sites so there was a lot less privacy. Guessing there was a fire hazard or other concern that required this type of work. We continue to advocate for USFS Forest Service to improve the budgets for these rec sites, but we’ve heard that some of their budgets are being re-routed to fire. Considering all the restrictions, way to go Waxmyrtle staff!

Very over grown camp spots with debris all over. The fire pits where full of grass and dirt. Branches and other debris making it difficult to even maneuver around with so many tripping hazards. Picnic bench fell apart and was covered in moss... camp host was nice though...

There is a 14-day in 30 rolling days camping limit on the Siuslaw National Forest. The 14 days does not have to be consecutive. The 14-day limit covers the entire Siuslaw National Forest and not just this campground as shown in the Rules Section. This means you cannot go to other campgrounds on the Siuslaw National Forest after reaching the 14-day limit. |
